The object in detail.
Viking period white bronze cast lunula pendant, dating 10th-11th Century AD.
Lunula is one of the ancient protectors and amulets or good luck charms. The finds of lunula appeared across various periods and various cultures all over Europe. Lunula was commonly used as a piece of jewelry. But its pattern was often used in clothes and decorations of other tools.
Lunula means a small moon. It is a female symbol dating back to the end of the Bronze Age. Women commonly wore lunula necklaces and used the lunula elements in various ornaments presenting their devotion to the moon which was a symbol of female fertility. The Norse jewelry was of great popularity among women. Wearing this Viking lunula symbol people hoped to attract luck, and happiness and to protect themselves from evil forces, evil eyes, and demonic creatures.
It is a pagan ancient jewelry sign of femininity and fertility. Women strongly believed in the protective power of the symbol of the crescent moon. Has an olive green color patina. The suspension loop is intact.
